There were times in my childhood when I used to have spine-chilling experiences while watching a horror movie. But as years passed by, the more matured I became I realized that most of the horror movies are a part of entertainment i.e. the kind of movies that thrills or scares until you are in the theater. But as soon as you leave the theater or finish watching the movie, the thrill or the scary feeling you have just goes away.
To be frank, there were some horror movies that have given me a couple of sleepless nights. One of them is the Friday the 13th Part Two. I know most of the people and critics have felt that the Friday, the 13th franchise has become a little boring. You know every three or four years there would be a sequel of the Friday the 13th, sometimes making us quite irritated and less interested in watching it.
Now why I feel that the movie Friday the 13th Part Two is worth watching compared to the other sequels and its prequel is because there are some scary stuff and the story also makes sense. The movie opens up with the killing of Alice, who was the only survivor in the first installment by Jason Voorhees. Now for some people who have not seen the first installment, here is a small piece of information. A small boy named Jason Voorhees gets drowned in the lake at the camp Crystal Lake due to the irresponsibility of the two camp in-charges. Years later his mother Pamela Voorhees starts killing all the innocent campers who come to the lake as a revenge for her son's death. In the end of the first installment, she gets killed by Alice, and her son Jason is on a revenge spree in the second part.
In the second part, five years after killing Alice, a group of teenagers come to the camp Crystal Lake for camping. Jason takes each of the teenagers and kills them in a brutal way. One of the victims gets killed when Jason hangs him a barbed wire. Another victim, the sheriff, after finishing the investigation gets killed instantly by Jason. While sitting in his car Jason attacks and kills him with the set of claws from the hammer, spilling his blood on his car's windshield. Even a poor wheelchair bound camper does not escape from Jason as he gets killed by having a machete struck on his face. A camper girl who goes to investigate the death that has happened around the camp Crystal Lake gets stabbed with a kitchen knife by Jason while she goes to help the wheelchair bound camper.
The scenes of killing are gruesome. But the only part that disappointed me or what I felt awkward was the climax. The only survivor Ginny while being chased by Jason enters his shack and finds a shrine created by Jason for his mother. The shrine has the mummified head of Pamela Voorhees; Jason's mother surrounded by lighted candles and dead corpses including that of Alice. Seeing that she cannot escape from Jason, she wears his mother's sweater and tries to fiddle with the mind of Jason. Jason at first gets carried over, but after seeing the mummified head of his mother comes to his senses and tries to kill Ginny. Luckily her boyfriend comes at that time and he starts fighting with Jason. Seeing both of them in a fight, Ginny takes her chance and stabs Jason on his shoulder with a machete. Then they both escape and hide in a cabin. Jason escapes from his shack and searches for them.
Later, Ginny gets exhausted and falls asleep. She wakes up and sees that she is in an ambulance with no recollection of how she escaped and what happened to her boyfriend. In the final scene, they show the mummified head of Pamela Voorhees to show that Jason still continues his terror spree at the Crystal Lake camp.
I know this ending is confusing and does not make sense, but what make the picture scary and worthwhile to watch is the ghastly killing scenes and the deformed face of Jason which is shown at the end. For those who want to watch the movie, you could either rent its DVD or watch it on your TV on some of the popular channels offered by cable and satellite providers like Dish Network.
